Now that I have gone through rehab at Pur Detox and I am able to look back at my methamphetamine addiction, I have learned a lot about this highly-addictive drug. Much of what I learned has helped me be able to speak to others who find themselves in the same situation that I was in – at the lowest point of their lives and looking for a way out of it. Two years ago, I found myself at Pur Detox in Laguna Beach, California when my family members took me to the luxurious rehab facility. Executive Recovery

Commercially available in the United States, metamphetamine is manufactured with products that are easy to access. After their first use often becoming addicted shortly , it mirrors the way the brain’s chemicals manufacture and send gratification messages to the brain’s pleasure center. Creating the same sense of satisfaction as the sense of gratification produced by meth, more difficulty for the life’s normal pleasures interfaces.

I have learned from my upscale rehabilitation experience at Pur Detox’s beautiful facility that individuals get hooked on meth because it enhances the senses. Pleasure, sex and the ability to focus on tasks are heightened.

These effects are just temporary. Over time, the user observes that the effects decrease. Since it becomes difficult for the person to function without the meth, this is what causes individuals to take more and more in order to achieve the same results.

Crystal meth addiction was a big issue back in the 1960s and 1970s then the black market was shut down and the problem soon faded. Then meth addiction once again became widespread in the 1990s.

I was stunned to know that meth addiction is prevalent in the United States. Based on one recent study, 9.4 million people admitted to trying meth at least once. 90% of drug use is taking place in the Midwest and the majority of meth users are between the ages of 18 and 25.

A change in behavior, such as agitation, rapid speech, a decrease in appetite, increased physical activity levels, and episodes of sudden and violent behavior, intense paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, and bouts of insomnia may be observed. You might also notice compulsive cleaning and grooming, and the user might repetitively sort and disassemble objects, such as cars and other mechanical devices.

More common signs of meth addiction include dilated pupils, bloodshot eyes, rotting teeth, flushed or tense appearance, open sores, breath that smells like chemicals, rapid speech, excessive sweating, severe weight loss, depression, paranoia, psychosis, grinding of the teeth, hallucinations, tremors, and memory loss.
