When Priscilla married Will she was overjoyed to become part of his affectionate and giving family. He had been born and raised in England and was exceptionally caring toward his parents and sisters. Since his family lived in England it was an exciting event when his whole family came for their first visit to spend time with the newlyweds. As Priscilla readied the house to make it as welcoming as possible she realized that she was going to have to stock up on some basics that were sure to be appreciated by her in-laws. She was a coffee drinker herself but she made sure to purchase loose leaf tea for them to enjoy through the day and a special organic black tea blend that was recommended as a breakfast drink. Her in-laws made sure to express their appreciation for her thoughtful gesture and seemed to truly enjoy sipping both blends.

This is a very small example of how a small sign of caring and consideration can work wonders in any relationship. A few things we can all do to express thoughtfulness are:

• Send a note – It is so easy to mail a brief message to inform someone they are in your thoughts. While it is always a pleasure to receive a note in the mail, it is also perfectly acceptable to send an e-mail. The point is that it lets the person know that they are in your thoughts.

• Providing a meal – When someone you are {acquainted with is overwhelmed for one reason or another, it is a great idea to cook a special dinner and deliver it to their home. Whether it is illness, the birth of a baby, unexpected company, or just someone who has overcommitted their time in one way or another, anyone would appreciate the gift of a meal.

• Sharing garden vegetables – If you are a person who enjoys gardening and growing your own herbs and vegetables make sure you are the kind of neighbor who offers some of the yield to others. They will appreciate your generosity and you will be happy that there was an opportunity to share with others what was more than you could use.

• Small gifts – It is so easy to pick up a small inexpensive gift to surprise a friend or family member with at an appropriate time. Some note paper or stamps to an elderly person or a coloring book and crayons or a puzzle for a younger child are always welcomed and appreciated.

• Greeting cards – It is easy to keep in touch by remembering special days by sending an appropriate card. This just takes a minute to do because the verse in the card can convey your message and you merely have to write a sentence or two and get it in the mail. Birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, new babies, and illness are all chances to mail a card expressing joy or good health and a quick recovery to a person. It is a good idea to have on hand a number of all-occasion cards so that it is not necessary to make a special trip to purchase one when it is needed.
